Promising Approaches for Promoting Lifelong Community Mobility
The Promising Approaches for Promoting Lifelong Community Mobility guide released in April 2008 is designed for use by AARP State Offices and Volunteers as a resource. This is an update of the 2005 AARP reprint of Promising Approaches for Enhancing Elderly Mobility. This guide, developed by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) under the sponsorship of AARP, highlights programs and initiatives considered to hold promise for enhancing the safety and mobility of older adults across the nation. Areas covered in the guide include driver screening and assessment, education and training, vehicle design and advanced technology, roadway design, transitioning from driving, transportation coordination, and alternative transportation options. AARP staff and volunteers will find that this guide will serve as a valuable resource for community professionals conducting or interested in developing programs for promoting older adult mobility. It can be ordered from Fulfillment with stock # D18390. A PDF can be downloaded at: Promising (pdf)
